COUNTERTOP & SINK SELECTION GUIDE

Comparing engineered quartz, natural Italian marble, and ceramic undermount sinks.

This Guide compares the most popular bathroom vanity countertop materials, including quartz, engineered marble, and natural marble, based on durability, maintenance, appearance, and cost. Marble-look quartz is also a popular choice for customers who want the appearance of natural marble with the easier maintenance of quartz.

When purchasing a Fabubath vanity, you can choose from the countertop options available for that collection.

1. Compare Countertop Materials

1. Compare Countertop Materials

The best countertop depends on the look you want, how the bathroom will be used, and how much maintenance you are comfortable with.

Material Type Durability Maintenance Look
Quartz Man-made engineered stone Excellent; highly durable for everyday bathroom use Low maintenance; no routine sealing required Consistent colors and patterns, from solid colors to natural-stone looks
Engineered Marble Man-made composite material Good durability for everyday use Easy to maintain; may be more sensitive to scratching than quartz Smooth, polished stone appearance
Natural Marble Natural stone Durable, but more susceptible to scratching, staining, and etching Requires more care and periodic sealing Natural veining and variation; every top is unique

2. Choose the Right Countertop for Your Bathroom

2. Choose the Right Countertop for Your Bathroom

Think about how the bathroom will be used before choosing a countertop based only on appearance.

1. For Busy Everyday Bathrooms

Quartz is an excellent choice for primary bathrooms, children's bathrooms, and other frequently used spaces because it combines durability with easy maintenance.

2. For the Marble Look With Easier Care

Marble-look quartz gives you the visual movement and veining associated with marble while providing the lower-maintenance qualities of quartz.

3. For a Natural, One-of-a-Kind Look

Natural marble is ideal when the beauty and variation of real stone are part of the design.

Every piece is different, so variation should be expected rather than considered a defect.

4. For Value and a Polished Stone Look

Engineered marble offers a clean, polished appearance and can provide an attractive alternative to natural stone or premium quartz.

5. For Light Weight, Simple maintenance and Replacement

Premium Acrylic refers to a man-made countertop material, usually solid white or black, typically made from acrylic resin and mineral fillers, offering a lightweight, nonporous surface with seamless integrated sinks, easy maintenance, and relatively simple replacement.

3. Select the Right Size and Sink Configuration

3. Select the Right Size and Sink Configuration

Fabubath countertops are available in a variety of sizes, generally ranging from 30" to 72", depending on the collection. Available configurations may include:

  • Centered single sink
  • Offset single sink on select sizes
  • Double sink on larger sizes

When purchasing a countertop separately, make sure it is compatible with both the width and depth of your vanity cabinet. Do not rely only on the nominal vanity size. Always review the actual countertop dimensions before ordering.

Good to Know: An offset-sink countertop may not work with a cabinet designed for a centered sink. The sink location needs to align with both the cabinet interior and the plumbing.

4. Check the Sink and Sink Cutout

4. Check the Sink and Sink Cutout

Fabubath countertops come pre-fabricated with the sink opening already prepared, so you do not need to have the sink cutout created separately.

Sinks are provided with the countertop. Depending on the countertop model, the sink may already be pre-installed, while on other models the sink is supplied with the top and installed during countertop installation.

Most Fabubath countertops use rectangular sinks, which provide a clean, contemporary appearance. Select countertop options are also available with oval sinks for a softer, more traditional look. Always check the product specifications for the exact countertop you are ordering to confirm the sink shape, position, and whether the sink arrives pre-installed.

Good to Know: When purchasing a countertop separately, make sure the sink location works with the cabinet below. Drawers, cabinet dividers, and plumbing can interfere with a sink positioned differently from the one the cabinet was designed for.

5. Check the Faucet Drilling

All Fabubath countertops come pre-drilled for either one-hole or three-hole widespread faucet installation. Because the faucet holes are already drilled, check the countertop specifications before purchasing your faucet.

Faucet Drilling Designed For
One Hole Single-hole bathroom faucet
Three Holes Three-piece or widespread faucet
Good to Know: A one-hole and three-hole countertop require different faucet configurations. Do not choose the faucet based only on the product photograph.

6. Consider Countertop Thickness and Edge Profile

The thickness and edge of the countertop can noticeably change the overall appearance of the vanity. Some Fabubath countertops feature a slim 2 cm profile, which creates a lighter, more contemporary look. Other countertops have a bullnose or more substantial edge profile, giving the top a thicker and more traditional stone appearance. Neither is necessarily better — the right choice depends on the style you want for your bathroom.

7. Check Whether a Backsplash Is Included

A matching backsplash comes with most Fabubath vanity countertops, but always check the specifications for the exact countertop you are ordering.

There are some exceptions:

  • Some wall-mounted vanity countertops do not include a backsplash
  • Premium acrylic tops do not have a backsplash

Sidesplashes are not included

Sidesplashes are typically not inclueded but can be purchased separately in certain collections. If your vanity will sit against a side wall, decide whether you need a sidesplash or whether your wall tile will provide the finished transition.

Good to Know: Never assume a backsplash shown in a lifestyle photograph is included. Always confirm it in the product specifications.

8. Buying a Countertop Separately

Fabubath countertops can also be purchased separately if you already have a compatible vanity cabinet. This is especially important when combining a countertop with a cabinet from a different collection or manufacturer. Before ordering, confirm:

  • Vanity cabinet width
  • Vanity cabinet depth
  • Actual countertop dimensions
  • Centered, offset, or double sink position
  • Sink shape
  • Sink cutout compatibility
  • One-hole or three-hole faucet drilling
  • Plumbing location
  • Countertop overhang
  • Backsplash requirements
Good to Know: A countertop made for a 36" vanity may measure slightly wider than 36" because the top normally overhangs the cabinet. Always compare the actual countertop dimensions rather than matching products by nominal size alone.

9. Countertop Delivery and Installation

When you purchase a vanity with a countertop, the vanity cabinet and countertop arrive in separate boxes. The countertop is packaged in its own box and installed onto the vanity after the cabinet is in position. During installation, the countertop is placed on the vanity and secured and sealed with silicone as required. Before installation, inspect the countertop carefully for:

  • Cracks
  • Chips
  • Shipping damage
  • Damage around sink openings or edges
Good to Know: Inspect the countertop before it is installed. Shipping damage is easier to identify and document while the countertop is still unpacked and accessible.
